General Questions
Think of your home like a fingerprint. Each house is unique and has its individual quirks. Depending on your electrical goals, our lead electrician needs to get an eye on where you want things located and how to accomplish the goal. This is why we cannot give bids over the phone nor do we offer “ballpark” bids. Sometimes, we can however do bids through FaceTime calls or photos if an in-person appointment is not an option for you.
DES is a by the book company. We follow all national, local city, and state laws regarding the electrical industry to ensure the safety of person and home. If your job requires an electrical permit, we will pull the permit. Usually, to simply swap out an existing light, fix a doorbell, or troubleshoot plugs that don’t work, these jobs do not require an electrical permit. Any job with new wiring or more, will require an electrical permit. Pulling a permit also helps to serve a checks and balances system to safeguard our customers and us.
A GFI or GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. The National Electric Code specifies their use is required in, but not limited to any places that involve potential moisture like bathrooms, kitchens, outdoors, wet bars, utility rooms, etc. as moisture increases the danger of accidental shock. These outlets help protect us from recieving electrical shocks from faults in the electrical devices by quickly cutting off the power supply within 20-30 milliseconds which reduces potential damage from an errant current.
Bids are performed when a homeowner or contractor knows exactly what they want to do. For example, it is known they want to add 4 can lights to their living room, or update their panel, or have an electrical plan mapped out for a new build. A service call is a time and material rate that takes place when there are unknowns. For example, if you have plugs or lights that aren’t working and are unsure as to why, or if a wall is being demo’d (taken down) and the wiring in the wall needs to be removed, services like these will fall under a service call as they require the electrician to do some troubleshooting or work around an unknown electrical scenario.
